Our Last Days

Our last few days in Australia have been nothing short of amazing. On Saturday, we traveled to the Gold Coast and spent the day shopping, walking along gorgeous beaches, going up into Q1, and going to the Australian Outback Spectacular!

On Sunday afternoon, we spent an afternoon at the Scarborough Beach just outside of Redcliffe. It was a time of fellowship with the church members, and our students' "parents" came as well. The coolest thing about the afternoon was that Caleb, one of our LETU students, asked Viktor to baptize him. He accepted Christ several years ago, but had never been baptized. So, the entire church community came out to witness the baptism at the beach. What an incredible memory!

We returned to Redcliffe (and indoor beds) on Tuesday evening. Then we spent a couple days in the classrooms and with the Mueller College crew before heading off to the Gold Coast on Saturday. Friday night, our group participated in a youth rally. The Roudkovski family actually took off Friday afternoon with Viktor's cousin, Gregg, to spend the night in Brisbane with family.

Our stay in Brisbane was very, very cool. We got to catch up with Val and Gregg, their daughter Rachel, and Gregg's mother who was there visiting. The coolest thing about that was, Viktor had never met Gregg's mom. She is the sister of Viktor's grandfather, and she helped raise Viktor's dad. It was neat for him to get to visit with her and hear stories about how his dad grew up. It was a pretty emotional time for the family, and a reminder of the importance of keeping in touch! Rachel and I are now facebook friends....

Vacation Days!

Between our visits to Gin Gin and Woorabinda, we spent a day on Great Keppel Island, and also spent a couple of nights at Carnarvan Gorge.

Great Keppel was beautiful! We had a lot of options of how to spend the day. Some of our group spent time doing "water sports" and a few of us went on a glass-bottom boat to view the coral and life at the bottom of the ocean! We were actually at the southern most point of the Great Barrier Reef. It was so cool!! And I saw the biggest fish ever--a cod that was at least 40 lbs. Amazing.

The day was very relaxing. It was nice to get away and just hang out with the family...and a few friends!

Our next vacation time was spent after our time at Woorabinda. We left on Sunday and traveled to Carnarvan Gorge, where we were going to camp for two nights and spend time hiking and such.

For those who weren't crazy about camping, at least they got to see a lot of kangaroos (Vicki)!!!

Woorabinda

After spending a couple of days in the Gin Gin schools, we made our way to Woorabinda. We actually camped a couple of nights outside of Yeppoon and spent a day at Great Keppel Island, but I'll cover our "vacation days" in another blog. Here, I'll show pics and talk about what we did in the aboriginal community of Woorabinda.
Paul Johnson, our AMOS guide, spent some time educating us about the culture we were walking into. He shared some things as warnings, and some things just to help us be more sensitive to their needs. Here are some pics:

When we had our evening program, we had a lot of fun! The funniest thing to me was that Nikolas entertained all of the Woorabinda children with his singing and dancing. It was hilarious! They all watched him dance to whatever music was playing! Viktoria caught on and had to have her place in the spotlight. It was the best way to have the kids sit still while we were getting ready to start the program! He also entertained Sunday morning before the church service!

The pictures don't really tell the story. The people in Woorabinda are in need of a lot of things. They don't have much in terms of material possessions, but most of all they need JESUS. The missionaries there, Martin and Rose, have been there for 9 1/2 years. In that time, only a few have come to Christ. At one point, they shared with us that only 5 Christians are active in the community. WOW. A real eye-opener. Please pray for the people of Woorabinda, and for Martin and Rose. We were able to share the Gospel and connect with the people (mostly children), but they need people consistently reminding them of the love of Christ. Many of our students were touched so much that they are trying to arrange a return to Woorabinda for longer term ministry. God truly worked in the hearts of people while we were there. It's amazing how a few puppet shows, dramas, and tricks can so effectively impact for the Kingdom of God!

More Gin Gin...

On our first day in Gin Gin, we went to only one school. After a lovely night's sleep (on a hard church floor....which no one complained about!!:)....

(Dr. Sheafer particularly enjoyed sleeping on the floor...)

...we had presentations in 4 schools:
